Short Yardage Pinch

Pinches the line and crowds backers to stop fourth-and-short runs.

Concept: Linemen crash inside gaps while stacked backers plug every remaining gap at the line.

RushBlitzDrop to coverage
14UIntroduce: Line up right and own your gap — win with alignment, pad level, and pursuit to the ball. Add get-off and block destruction so the front controls the line of scrimmage. Layer in the called blitz — one timed gap-shooter on the snap. Add the line stunt/twist to beat the offense's blocking rules. Teach the coverage drops behind the front and read run vs. pass. Combine front, pressure, and coverage — and disguise it pre-snap.

How to teach it

  • 1Linemen crash inside gaps while stacked backers plug every remaining gap at the line.
  • 2Get pad level low and win leverage against fourth-and-short push.
  • 3Penetrate to disrupt the mesh and stop forward movement at the line.

Common mistakes to fix

  • !Linemen crashing so hard the edge opens for a bounce; fix by having Star/Spur set the edges.
  • !Defenders firing high and getting moved; fix with low-and-hard get-off reps.
