BlitzBest for: Passing down
Double A-Gap Blitz
Mike and Will blitz both A-gaps for heavy interior pressure.
Concept: Both backers fire the A-gaps while safeties rotate to the middle and ends contain the edges.
Base alignment — schematic, not to scale
Every position's job
Mike
Blitz strong A-gap downhill
Will
Blitz weak A-gap downhill
Defensive Tackles
Slant to B-gaps to open the A-gaps
Defensive Ends
Contain both edges
Sam
Drop to strong flat/hook
Corners
Man coverage, no separation
Safeties
Two-deep or one robs the middle
How to teach it
- 1Only one call, but both backers must hit their own gap.
- 2Show late so the offense cannot slide protection.
- 3Vs draw or screen, plant and rally to the ball.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Both backers hit the same gap; fix by clearly assigning strong and weak A-gaps.
- !Backers stand up at the line and get stoned; fix by drilling a low, hard downhill entry.
