Will Blitz B-Gap
The weak-side Will linebacker blitzes through the B-gap.
Concept: Will attacks the B-gap off the tackle's hip while the end crashes inside to occupy blockers.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 12UIntroduce: Line up right and own your gap — win with alignment, pad level, and pursuit to the ball.
- 14UAttack blocks: Add get-off and block destruction so the front controls the line of scrimmage. Layer in the called blitz — one timed gap-shooter on the snap. Add the line stunt/twist to beat the offense's blocking rules. Teach the coverage drops behind the front and read run vs. pass. Combine front, pressure, and coverage — and disguise it pre-snap.
Every position's job
1-technique, control the weak A-gap.
3-technique or shade, hold the interior as Will comes off the hip.
Crash inside to occupy blockers and open Will's B-gap lane.
Cover the middle hook or the back, replace Will inside.
Cover the strong hook/curl or the tight end.
Blitz the weak B-gap off the tackle's hip, attack the QB.
Deep-middle center field.
Cover strong receiver.
Cover weak receiver.
How to teach it
- 1Will attacks the weak B-gap off the tackle's hip while the weak end crashes inside to occupy blockers.
- 2The end's inside crash opens the B-gap lane for Will.
- 3Mike replaces Will in the middle hook or takes the back.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Will blitzing too wide and getting kicked; fix by aiming tight off the tackle's inside hip.
- !End not crashing and clogging Will's lane; fix by the end slanting hard inside first.
