  1. 6UIntroduce: Line up right and own your gap — win with alignment, pad level, and pursuit to the ball.
  2. 8UAttack blocks: Add get-off and block destruction so the front controls the line of scrimmage.
  3. 10UAdd coverage: Teach the coverage drops behind the front and read run vs. pass.

Every position's job

Sink to the flat on the cloud side instead of playing deep.

FS

Cover the deep middle third.

CB (away side)

Cover the away deep third.

OLB (Sam)

Drop to the strong curl/hook.

OLB (weak)

Drop to the weak curl-flat.

MLB (Mike)

Drop to the strong hook/middle.

DE (both)

Rush and contain the edges.

Nickel/extra

Fill an underneath zone as needed.

How to teach it

  • 1'Cloud' = the CORNER sinks to the flat while a safety rotates to that deep third — the opposite of sky.
  • 2Good vs strong flat/perimeter runs since the corner is the force player.
  • 3Communicate which side is cloud pre-snap so the safety rotation is right.

Common mistakes to fix

  • !Corner and safety both play deep and no one has the flat; fix by drilling the corner-down, safety-over exchange.
  • !Safety is late to the deep third; fix by teaching an early pre-snap rotation cue.
