Tackle and end on the same side exchange gaps to confuse blockers.

Concept: The tackle penetrates first into the B-gap and the end loops behind him into the vacated inside gap.

  1. 10UIntroduce: Line up right and own your gap — win with alignment, pad level, and pursuit to the ball.
  2. 12UAttack blocks: Add get-off and block destruction so the front controls the line of scrimmage.

Every position's job

DT (stunt side)

Penetrate first hard into the B-gap to occupy the guard and tackle, opening the loop lane.

DE (stunt side)

Loop behind the penetrating tackle into the vacated inside (B/A) gap.

DT (backside)

Rush the A-gap and occupy the interior.

DE (backside)

Rush the C-gap and hold backside contain.

MLB (Mike)

Fill the strong A-gap and be ready to replace if the twist is late.

OLB (Sam)

Set strong contain since the end is looping inside.

OLB (weak)

Set weak contain and scrape.

CB (strong)

Cover the deep third/receiver.

CB (weak)

Cover the deep third/receiver.

FS

Play over the top and fill the alley.

How to teach it

  • 1Tackle goes FIRST and penetrates to occupy the blockers; the end loops behind him — drill the timing so they don't clog.
  • 2The end stays tight to the tackle's hip on the loop into the vacated gap.
  • 3Best on passing downs to beat man protection — teach the penetrate-then-loop sequence.

Common mistakes to fix

  • !End loops too early before the tackle occupies blockers; fix by teaching him to wait for the tackle to clear.
  • !Twist opens a run lane and no backer fills; fix by keeping this a passing-down call or having a backer plug.
