Every position's job

ILB (Will)

Read the pass key and fire the backside B-gap off the tackle's outside hip.

DE (weak)

Crash inside to occupy blockers and clear Will's B-gap lane.

MLB (Mike)

Cover the vacated middle/hook zone or fill the strong A-gap on run.

OLB (Sam)

Set strong contain and cover the strong flat.

OLB (weak)

Set weak contain since Will is blitzing inside.

CB (strong)

Cover the strong receiver.

CB (weak)

Cover the weak receiver.

FS/SS

Rotate to single-high behind the blitz.

How to teach it

  • 1Will fires the B-gap off the tackle's outside hip while the end crashes inside to occupy — drill the crash-and-fire combo.
  • 2Will reads the pass key first; he plays the run if it shows.
  • 3Keep contain accounted for on the weak edge since Will vacated.

Common mistakes to fix

  • !End doesn't crash and Will runs into a blocker; fix by drilling the end's inside crash to clear the lane.
  • !Weak edge is left uncontained; fix by having the OLB or safety set the edge.
