How to teach it

  • 1Every down lineman steps to his right gap in unison on the snap, keeping shoulders square as they cross faces.
  • 2Backers must flow with the slant and fill the backside gap that opens up.
  • 3This overloads the right side, so the left/backside backer is the cutback insurance.

Common mistakes to fix

  • !Linemen slanting too flat and getting reached; fix by attacking the near shoulder of the next blocker.
  • !Backside gap left unfilled on cutback; fix by having the backside backer read and replace.
