Power Left
Running back runs power off tackle behind a pulling guard from the gun.
Concept: Backside guard pulls to lead through the hole while the tackle down-blocks and the wing kicks out.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 6UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill.
- 8UAdd the lead: Add the pulling guard(s) leading through the hole.
- 10UAdd the edge: Add the kickout block and run it to both sides.
- 12UAdd deception: Add the fake/mesh — and a counter off the very same look.
- 14UMaster it: Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.
Every position's job
Catch the snap and hand to the back on the power path off tackle.
Take the handoff off tackle behind the pulling guard, reading the kickout and lead.
Down-block the first inside defender.
Pull and lead through the hole onto the linebacker.
Block back to seal the backside.
Down-block the defender inside.
Hinge or scoop to protect the backside.
Down-block inside to widen the hole.
Kick out the end man on the line of scrimmage.
Stalk-block the corner.
Block the overhang or safety.
How to teach it
- 1Wing kicks OUT the end man; backside guard pulls to lead UP through the hole; tackle down-blocks.
- 2Back is patient behind the pull, then cuts vertically off the lead block.
- 3Build the wall with the down blocks before the back arrives.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Wing logs instead of kicks — teach him to kick out and stay square.
- !Pulling guard runs past the hole — turn up tight off the down block.
