Trap 34
Running back hits a quick trap through the interior from the gun.
Concept: Backside guard pulls to trap the first lineman past the down block while the center blocks back.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 6UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill.
- 8UAdd the lead: Add the pulling guard(s) leading through the hole.
- 10UAdd deception: Add the fake/mesh — and a counter off the very same look.
- 12UMaster it: Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.

Down-block inside or climb to the linebacker.
Hinge or scoop to protect the backside.

How to teach it
- 1Backside guard pulls to trap the first lineman past the down block; center blocks back.
- 2Back hits it downhill immediately — this is a quick trap.
- 3Trapping guard uses outside shoulder to kick the defender.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Guard pulls too deep and is late — keep the pull tight and flat.
- !Back is slow and clogs the hole — decisive downhill first step.
