46 Buck Sweep

Every position's job

FB

Take the buck/dive fake up the middle to hold the interior defenders.

TB

Take the ball on the sweep and run wide behind both pulling guards.

WB

Seal the edge or block the alley defender on the sweep side.

QB

Lead-block around the edge or seal pursuit.

Playside End

Reach or block down to seal the inside edge.

Playside Tackle

Down-block the first inside defender.

Playside Guard

Pull playside and lead the sweep, kicking out the contain man.

Backside Guard

Pull playside and wrap upfield to block the alley defender.

Center

Snap the ball, then block back on the backside gap.

Backside Tackle

Hinge and cut off backside pursuit.

How to teach it

  • 1The fullback's dive fake holds the interior so the guards can get to the corner.
  • 2Both guards pull playside — first kicks out, second wraps up the alley.
  • 3Tailback follows the pullers and turns up off their blocks.

Common mistakes to fix

  • !Fullback's fake is weak and linebackers flow to the sweep — fix by drilling a hard buck fake.
  • !Guards pull to the wrong depth — fix by teaching the first to kick, the second to wrap.
