Belly G Left
Tailback runs a belly path off-tackle with a guard pulling to lead through the hole.
Concept: Playside end down-blocks and the backside guard pulls to log or kick the edge defender for the belly lane.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 6UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill.
- 8UAdd the lead: Add the pulling guard(s) leading through the hole.
- 10UAdd the edge: Add the kickout block and run it to both sides.
- 12UMaster it: Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.
Every position's job
Take the snap, run the belly path off-tackle, and follow the pulling guard through the hole.
Fake the belly or fill to hold the linebackers.
Seal the edge or block the alley defender.
Lead-block or seal pursuit.
Down-block the first inside defender to open the belly lane.
Down-block inside to help seal the seam.
Down-block or combo to secure the interior.
Pull to log or kick the edge defender for the belly lane.
Snap the ball, then block back on the backside gap.
Hinge and cut off backside pursuit.
How to teach it
- 1Playside end down-blocks and the backside guard pulls to log or kick the edge.
- 2Tailback runs the belly path tight to the down-blocks.
- 3Teach the pulling guard to read log versus kick based on the edge defender's charge.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Guard picks the wrong log/kick — fix by teaching if the end squeezes, log him; if he widens, kick.
- !Tailback runs too wide — fix by aiming him tight off the down-blocks.
