Unbalanced 27 Power
With both tackles to one side, the tailback runs power to the strong overloaded edge.
Concept: The extra strongside tackle creates a double-team at the point of attack while guards pull to lead.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 8UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill.
- 10UAdd the lead: Add the pulling guard(s) leading through the hole.
- 12UAdd the edge: Add the kickout block and run it to both sides.
- 14UMaster it: Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.
Every position's job
Take the direct snap and run power to the strong overloaded edge behind the double-team.
Fill or lead through the hole to add force.
Kick out or seal the edge on the strong side.
Lead-block through the hole or seal pursuit.
Down-block and form the double-team at the point of attack with the extra tackle.
Down-block inside or seal the edge on the overloaded side.
Pull and lead through the power hole.
Pull and wrap up through the hole to the second level.
Snap to the tailback, then block back on the backside.
Hinge and cut off backside pursuit.
How to teach it
- 1The extra strongside tackle creates the double-team — teach the two tackles to combo drive.
- 2Guards pull to lead through the overloaded strong-side hole.
- 3Tailback follows the double-team patiently into the hole.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Defense over-shifts and the double-team fails — fix by identifying the point-of-attack man pre-snap.
- !Guards pull into each other — fix by staggering their pull paths.
