Every position's job
QB
Read man or zone, throw the open crosser or the sit route.
RB
Release to the flat or check protection.
Playside OL
Pass set to protect the throw.
Backside OL
Pass set and protect.
Center
Snap and set the pocket.
WR
Run the shallow crosser and mesh over the middle.
Slot
Run the opposite shallow crosser to create the mesh.
TE
Run a sit route behind the mesh.
How to teach it
- 1Rep the mesh depth so the crossers pass close but do not collide.
- 2Coach the crossers to accelerate through the mesh point.
- 3Teach the QB to identify man vs zone quickly.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Crossers run too deep and miss the mesh; fix by setting a one-to-three-yard depth.
- !Receivers slow down at the mesh; fix by coaching acceleration through it.
