Wide Receiver Reverse

Running back starts a sweep and hands to a receiver coming the opposite way.

Concept: Backside must cut off pursuit while a lineman or slot leads around the far edge for the reverse.

14UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill. Add the pulling guard(s) leading through the hole. Add pre-snap motion to stress the defense's edge. Add the fake/mesh — and a counter off the very same look. Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.

How to teach it

  • 1Backside must cut off pursuit while a lineman or slot leads the reverse.
  • 2Sell the sweep hard so the defense flows away from the reverse.
  • 3Reverse runner follows the lead blocker around the far edge.

Common mistakes to fix

  • !Weak sweep fake — sell the initial sweep at full speed.
  • !Reverse exchange fumbled — rep the handoff give point.
