Counter Criss-Cross Left

Both wingbacks cross with the ball ending up going against the initial power flow.

Concept: Line sells power one way while pullers lead the crossing wing back to the weak side.

14UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill. Add the pulling guard(s) leading through the hole. Add the kickout block and run it to both sides. Add pre-snap motion to stress the defense's edge. Add the fake/mesh — and a counter off the very same look. Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.

Every position's job

QB

Take the snap, start the power flow, then hand to the crossing wingback going against the flow.

FB

Sell the power flow one way to hold the defense.

Playside Wingback

Fake taking the ball to sell the initial direction.

Backside Wingback

Cross and take the handoff, running back to the weak side.

Playside Guard

Pull and lead the crossing wing back to the weak side.

Backside Guard

Pull and lead through the crossing lane.

Playside End

Show power flow, then wall off for the criss-cross direction.

Playside Tackle

Show power flow to sell the initial direction.

Center

Snap the ball, then block back and cut off pursuit.

Backside Tackle

Wall off the backside pursuit as the ball changes direction.

How to teach it

  • 1Line sells power one way while pullers lead the crossing wing back weak.
  • 2Both wings cross tight so the ball is hidden on the exchange.
  • 3Sell the power flow fully before the criss-cross hits.

Common mistakes to fix

  • !Exchange is fumbled on the cross — fix by drilling the mesh at game speed.
  • !Pursuit chases the crossing wing — fix by walling off the backside firmly.
