Jet Trap
Jet motion holds the defense while the fullback hits the interior trap up the middle.
Concept: The jet fake pulls linebackers to the edge as the backside guard traps the first inside defender.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 10UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill.
- 12UAdd the lead: Add the pulling guard(s) leading through the hole.
- 14UAdd motion: Add pre-snap motion to stress the defense's edge. Add the fake/mesh — and a counter off the very same look. Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.
Every position's job
Fake the jet handoff to the motion wing, then hand to the fullback on the interior trap.
Take the trap handoff and hit the interior up the middle downhill.
Seal or fake to sell the jet action.
Run the jet motion fake to pull the linebackers to the edge.
Pull and trap the first inside defender.
Snap the ball, then block back on the backside gap.
Block down inside to seal the trap lane.
Down-block the first inside defender.
Down-block inside or release to the second level.
Hinge and cut off backside pursuit.
How to teach it
- 1The jet fake pulls linebackers to the edge so the trap hits inside.
- 2Backside guard traps the first inside defender past the down block.
- 3Fullback hits the interior downhill off the trap while the jet fake holds the edge.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Jet fake is weak and linebackers don't chase — fix by drilling a full-speed motion fake.
- !Trap guard traps the wrong man — fix by counting the first man past the down block.
