Toss Sweep
Quarterback tosses to the wingback in motion sweeping wide to the corner.
Concept: Playside linemen reach and the wing kicks the edge as pullers lead the toss man around the corner.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 10UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill.
- 12UAdd the lead: Add the pulling guard(s) leading through the hole.
- 14UAdd the edge: Add the kickout block and run it to both sides. Add pre-snap motion to stress the defense's edge. Add the fake/mesh — and a counter off the very same look. Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.
Every position's job
Take the snap and toss to the wingback in motion sweeping wide to the corner.
Fill or fake inside to hold the linebackers.
Kick out the edge/contain man to turn the toss up.
Take the motion toss and sweep wide, turning the corner behind the pullers.
Reach-block the edge to seal the corner.
Reach or down-block the first inside defender.
Pull and lead the toss man around the corner.
Pull behind and wrap upfield to block the alley defender.
Snap the ball, then block back on the backside.
Hinge and cut off backside pursuit.
How to teach it
- 1Playside linemen reach and the wing kicks the edge as pullers lead.
- 2The toss man catches in stride and follows the pullers around the corner.
- 3QB delivers a soft, leading toss out in front of the wing.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Wing turns up too soon — fix by stressing width before the cut.
- !Pullers are late — fix with a timed pull to the corner.
