Fullback Trap
Quarterback hands to the fullback on a quick interior trap up the middle.
Concept: Backside guard pulls to trap the first defender past the center as the center blocks back.
Base alignment — schematic, not to scale
Every position's job
QB
Fake the option ride, then hand to the FB on the trap track.
FB
Run downhill off the trap block, cut off the puller's block.
Playside Slot
Fake arc release to hold the perimeter defender.
Backside Slot
Fake pitch phase to hold the backside.
Playside OL
Down-block the first defender inside.
Backside OL
Backside guard pulls and traps the first man past the center.
Center
Block back on the backside A-gap defender.
How to teach it
- 1Trap hits fast, so the FB stays low and downhill.
- 2Puller keeps his eyes on the defender he traps.
- 3Sell the option fake to freeze the linebackers.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Puller traps the wrong defender (fix: count defenders from the center pre-snap).
- !FB bounces outside instead of following the trap (fix: build a wall of bags forcing the inside cut).
