Fullback Trap Left
Quarterback hands to the fullback on a quick interior trap up the middle.
Concept: Backside guard pulls to trap the first defender past the center as the center blocks back.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 6UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill.
- 8UAdd the lead: Add the pulling guard(s) leading through the hole.
- 10UAdd the edge: Add the kickout block and run it to both sides.
- 12UAdd deception: Add the fake/mesh — and a counter off the very same look.
- 14UMaster it: Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.
Every position's job
Take a quick handoff and hit the interior trap lane straight up the middle behind the trapper.
Reverse-pivot, hand cleanly to the B-back, and carry out a fake to the edge.
Pull and trap the first defender past the center, kicking him out.
Block back on the backside A-gap defender to free the puller.
Down-block or climb to the linebacker.
Down-block the first inside threat.
Hinge and seal the backside.
Fill/fake or block the alley to hold the edge.
Motion or fake to hold backside pursuit.
Stalk-block or clear coverage.
Fake flow to hold the edge defenders.
How to teach it
- 1Trapper pulls flat and kicks out the first defender past the center — drill the flat pull and kick angle.
- 2Center blocks BACK so the trapper has a lane; rep the exchange.
- 3B-back hits it downhill and fast — no dancing in the hole.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Trapper traps the wrong man (counts wrong); fix by teaching 'first defender past the center' out loud.
- !B-back is too slow and the hole closes; fix by drilling a downhill, one-cut hit.
