Inside Veer Left
Mirror of the inside veer to the left with the quarterback reading the dive key for give or keep.
Concept: Playside line veer-blocks inside while the fullback aims for the outside leg of the guard on the dive.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 10UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill.
- 12UAdd motion: Add pre-snap motion to stress the defense's edge.
- 14UAdd deception: Add the fake/mesh — and a counter off the very same look. Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.
Every position's job
Mirror the inside veer left, ride the B-back and read the dive key (first man past the playside tackle) for give or keep.
Aim for the outside leg of the playside (left) guard on the dive and run downhill.
Arc-release to block the alley/force defender for the keep.
Motion into pitch relationship and stay ready for the pitch.
Veer-block inside to the playside linebacker, leaving the read end unblocked.
Veer inside and combo to the linebacker with the tackle.
Block back to the backside A-gap.
Scoop the backside gap and cut off pursuit.
Hinge to protect the backside.
Stalk the corner or clear the deep third.
How to teach it
- 1Same mesh rules mirrored — make left-handed reps equal to right so the QB is comfortable both ways.
- 2Playside line veer-blocks inside; drill the guard-tackle combo so one climbs to the linebacker cleanly.
- 3B-back tracks the outside leg of the guard — mark it with a cone.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Line blocks the read end instead of climbing inside; fix by re-teaching the veer release and IDing the dive key aloud.
- !QB opens the wrong direction on the mesh; fix with dry footwork reps before adding the back.
