Quarterback Follow Left
Quarterback fakes the dive and follows a lead blocker straight up the middle.
Concept: Backside guard pulls to lead through the A-gap for the quarterback off the fullback fake.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 6UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill.
- 8UAdd the lead: Add the pulling guard(s) leading through the hole.
- 10UMaster it: Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.
Every position's job
Fake the dive to the B-back, then follow the pulling lead blocker straight up the middle through the A-gap.
Sell the dive fake and fill/block to hold the interior defenders.
Pull and lead through the A-gap for the QB.
Block back or over to open the A-gap for the puller and QB.
Down-block/base the first inside threat.
Down-block or base the man over.
Hinge and seal backside.
Fill/block the alley to hold the edge.
Fake or seal backside pursuit.
Stalk-block or clear coverage.
Fake flow and block the near defender.
How to teach it
- 1Sell the dive fake first — the QB's fake sets up the follow; drill a convincing mesh fake.
- 2Backside guard pulls through the A-gap and leads on the first wrong-colored jersey.
- 3QB stays tight to the puller's hip through the hole.
Common mistakes to fix
- !QB follows before the fake registers; fix by counting a beat on the dive fake.
- !Puller runs past the play or too wide; fix by teaching a tight A-gap track and leading on the first defender.
