Every position's job

QB

No dive phase — attack the pitch key immediately and option (keep or pitch) off the first unblocked perimeter defender.

Pitch Slot

Get into the pitch relationship quickly for the pitch.

Playside Slot

Arc to the alley if not the pitch back, or block the next defender out.

B-back

Fill/fake to hold the interior and cut off pursuit.

Playside Tackle

Reach-block to the edge.

Playside Guard

Reach-block playside to seal the interior gap.

Center

Reach playside and cut off backside.

Split End

Stalk the corner.

Frontside A-back

Arc to the alley defender.

How to teach it

  • 1No mesh — the QB gets to the pitch key fast; rep the pitch relationship at full speed.
  • 2Line reaches playside since there is no dive read; drill the reach footwork.
  • 3QB attacks the first unblocked perimeter defender's inside shoulder and pitches as he commits.

Common mistakes to fix

  • !QB is too deep/slow getting to the edge; fix by teaching a downhill, flat pitch path.
  • !Pitch back too close to the QB; fix by drilling the 4x1 relationship.
