Dive 24
Fullback takes a quick dive handoff up the middle.
Concept: Interior line drive-blocks straight ahead to create a quick vertical seam.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 6UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill.
- 8UAdd deception: Add the fake/mesh — and a counter off the very same look.
- 10UMaster it: Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.
Every position's job
Take the snap, make a quick reverse pivot, and hand the ball to the fullback aiming for the playside A/B-gap.
Take the quick handoff and hit the seam straight ahead over the guard/tackle, pressing vertical.
Fill or fake the opposite path to hold the linebackers and carry out a fake.
Drive-block the man over him straight off the ball to create vertical push.
Drive-block straight ahead and seal the backside A-gap.
Drive-block the nose straight back to open the seam.
Drive-block the down defender straight ahead.
Drive-block and cut off backside pursuit.
Drive-block the end or release to the playside linebacker.
Release and stalk-block the corner to clear the perimeter.
How to teach it
- 1This is a timing play — the QB and fullback must nail the quick mesh with no hesitation.
- 2Coach the whole interior to fire out low and drive straight back for a vertical seam.
- 3Fullback hits it downhill full speed and does not dance in the hole.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Fullback bounces outside — fix by teaching him to take what the interior gives him straight ahead.
- !Mesh is slow and the fullback is late — fix by drilling the snap-to-handoff timing repeatedly.
