Every position's job

QB

Take the drop, work the primary read, then check down to the fullback swinging to the flat.

FB

Release on a swing/circle route to the flat as the quick outlet target.

TB

Run a route or protect to occupy a defender.

Split End

Run the primary route (go or dig) to clear or attack coverage.

Flanker

Run an intermediate route to hold the coverage.

Playside Guard

Full-protect the interior.

Center

Anchor the pocket.

Backside Guard

Full-protect the backside interior.

Backside Tackle

Full-protect the backside edge.

How to teach it

  • 1Fullback's swing route is the safety valve — teach him to get width and show his numbers to the QB.
  • 2QB works his primary read first, then resets to the fullback if covered.
  • 3Protection must hold since this is a full dropback with an outlet.

Common mistakes to fix

  • !Fullback runs too flat and the QB can't lead him — fix by teaching a rounded swing gaining width.
  • !QB bails to the checkdown too fast — fix by making him hitch on the primary read first.
