Play-Action Iso Pass
Quarterback fakes the iso dive then throws downfield.
Concept: Line sells run before setting while the fullback leaks to the flat and a receiver goes deep.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 12UIntroduce: Learn the footwork and the primary read; protect first, then complete the easy throw.
- 14UAdd deception: Add the fake/mesh — and a counter off the very same look. Add the play-action throw off this run action. Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.
Every position's job
Fake the iso dive to the tailback, then set and throw — fullback in the flat or a receiver deep.
Sell the iso run fake hard into the line to suck up the linebackers.
Fake the iso lead block, then leak out into the flat as the outlet.
Run a deep route (go or post) to attack the vacated deep coverage.
Run an intermediate route to occupy the underneath defender.
Sell run, then set and protect the interior.
Sell run block, then anchor the pocket.
Sell run, then pass-protect the edge.
Protect the backside edge.
How to teach it
- 1Line sells run first with a hard punch before dropping into protection.
- 2Fullback's flat leak must look exactly like his iso block at the start.
- 3QB uses a high-low read: deep receiver first, then the fullback in the flat.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Fullback releases too early and tips the pass — fix by having him fake the block first.
- !Deep receiver runs a lazy route — fix by stressing he must threaten deep to clear the safety.
