Statue / Fake Sweep Reverse Left
Quarterback fakes a sweep handoff and a hidden receiver takes it the other way.
Concept: Line flows to sell the sweep while the ball-carrier delays before cutting back against pursuit.
Every position's job
Fake the sweep handoff to one side (statue-style), hide the ball, then hand to the hidden receiver crossing the other way.
Take the fake sweep and run hard to sell the flow to that side.
Fake the sweep lead to sell the initial direction.
Delay, then take the hidden handoff and cut back against pursuit around the opposite edge.
Block the backside contain to spring the reverse.
Cut off backside pursuit chasing the sweep fake.
Flow to sell the sweep, then hinge for the reverse.
Lead around the far edge for the ball-carrier.
Block back and cut off inside pursuit.
Flow to sell the sweep direction.
How to teach it
- 1The line flows hard to sell the sweep before the ball comes back the other way.
- 2Ball-carrier delays before cutting back so pursuit overruns the play.
- 3QB hides the ball on his hip to disguise the handoff.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Ball-carrier cuts back too soon into pursuit — fix by teaching the delay before the cutback.
- !Line flow doesn't sell — fix by having them sprint to the fake side first.
