Toss Sweep Right
Tailback catches a pitch and runs wide behind the fullback and pulling guard.
Concept: Playside blocks down, the guard pulls to kick, and the fullback leads around the edge.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 6UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill.
- 8UAdd the lead: Add the pulling guard(s) leading through the hole.
- 10UAdd the edge: Add the kickout block and run it to both sides.
- 12UAdd deception: Add the fake/mesh — and a counter off the very same look.
- 14UMaster it: Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.
Every position's job
Take the snap, open right, and pitch a soft toss out in front of the tailback, then carry out a fake away.
Catch the pitch on the run, get width, and turn upfield off the fullback's and pulling guard's blocks.
Lead around the edge and block the first defender showing outside, sealing the corner.
Block down on the first inside defender to wall off pursuit.
Block down on the interior man, sealing inside.
Block back to protect the pulling guard's vacated gap.
Pull flat and kick out the contain/force defender at the corner.
Hinge and cut off backside pursuit.
Down-block or reach the end to seal the edge.
Arc-block the force defender or crack the outside linebacker to spring the alley.
How to teach it
- 1Teach the toss as a soft lead pitch the back can catch in stride at full speed.
- 2Pulling guard sprints to kick out the contain man — get around the corner fast.
- 3Tailback gains width first, then turns north-south off his blockers.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Tailback turns upfield too soon into pursuit — fix by stressing width before he cuts.
- !Pulling guard is late to the corner — fix with a timed race to the edge landmark.
