RunBest for: Base down
Belly Right
Fullback runs off tackle on the belly ride with the quarterback riding the mesh.
Concept: Playside blocks down and the tackle base-blocks while the wingback seals the edge.
Base alignment — schematic, not to scale
Every position's job
QB
Ride the FB belly, read the end, hand off or keep.
FB
Aim at the outside leg of the tackle and run through the arm ride.
HB
Sweep-fake wide to stretch the defense.
Playside OL
Down block and combo to the playside linebacker.
Backside OL
Cut off backside pursuit with reach and scoop blocks.
Center
Combo with the playside guard up to the linebacker.
TE
Base or down block the end man to seal off tackle.
WB
Arc release and block the safety in the alley.
How to teach it
- 1Rep the belly ride so the QB and FB mesh looks the same every time.
- 2Coach the combo block timing from the double team up to the linebacker.
- 3Teach the FB to run behind his pads through the hole.
Common mistakes to fix
- !QB pulls the ball too early; fix by teaching a full ride before the read.
- !Combo blockers leave the double too soon; fix by coaching 'four eyes on the backer' before climbing.
