Bootleg Keep Pass
Quarterback fakes the dive and rolls out with a run-pass option to throw or run.
Concept: Tight end blocks then releases to the flat as an outlet while the quarterback reads the contain defender.
Every position's job
Fake the dive, roll out, read the contain defender, and run or throw the outlet.
Run the dive fake to hold the front, then leak if needed.
Fake a run or block backside contain.
Down-block or set the playside edge in the roll direction.
Hinge or pull to protect the backside from pursuit.
Block back and protect the interior.
Hinge and protect the roll-side edge.
Hinge to cut off backside pursuit.
Block briefly, then release to the flat as the outlet.
Run a deep or comeback route to hold the top.
Run a crossing or intermediate route as a secondary option.
How to teach it
- 1Tight end blocks a beat, then releases to the flat as the QB's primary outlet.
- 2QB reads the contain defender: if he crashes, keep it; if he sits, throw the flat.
- 3Sell the dive fake fully before rolling to make the run-pass option honest.
Common mistakes to fix
- !QB commits to run or pass too early — teach him to read the contain man before deciding.
- !TE releases too fast and doesn't help the edge — time the block-then-release.
