Buck Sweep Left
Halfback takes the handoff and follows two pulling guards around the left end.
Concept: Both guards pull left with playside guard kicking out and backside guard leading up through the hole.
Grows with your players
Same play, more layers as they age up — teach it once and build on it every season for a consistent program.
- 10UIntroduce: Nail the snap/exchange, aim the right hole, and finish downhill.
- 12UAdd the lead: Add the pulling guard(s) leading through the hole.
- 14UAdd the edge: Add the kickout block and run it to both sides. Add the fake/mesh — and a counter off the very same look. Run it fast both directions and check into it by defensive look.
Every position's job
Reverse-pivot, hand to the halfback going left, then fake the buck to the fullback to freeze the backside.
Take the handoff, belly to let the guards clear, read the playside guard's kickout and cut up off the backside guard's lead.
Fake the buck dive up the middle and fill for the pulling backside guard.
Pull left and kick out the end man on the line of scrimmage.
Pull left and lead up through the hole onto the first linebacker.
Scoop-block backside to cut off the down lineman away from the pull.
Down-block the first inside defender to open the pulling lane.
Scoop and cut off backside pursuit.
Down-block inside to help wall the edge.
Seal the force defender on the playside edge.
Stalk-block the cornerback to clear the alley.
How to teach it
- 1Both guards pull flat and hard to the left; playside kicks out, backside wraps up.
- 2Center's scoop must cut off the backside A-gap immediately after the snap.
- 3Halfback presses the hole and lets the lead guard clear the linebacker before cutting.
Common mistakes to fix
- !Backside guard turns up too early and misses the hole — teach him to get depth and read the down block.
- !Center lets the nose shoot the vacated gap — emphasize the quick scoop step.
