Waggle Right (Boot Pass)
Quarterback fakes the buck sweep, boots opposite, and reads the flood of receivers.
Concept: Backside guard pulls to protect the edge; tight end drags, wingback runs the flat, and split end runs a deep post.
Every position's job
Fake the buck sweep, boot to the right, and read the flood high-to-low (post, flat, drag).
Run the buck dive fake, then check-release as a late safety valve.
Fake the buck sweep to sell the run and hold the linebackers.
Down-block or set the playside edge in the boot direction.
Pull to the boot side to protect the edge/contain defender.
Block back and protect the interior against inside rush.
Hinge and protect the playside.
Hinge-block to seal backside pursuit.
Release and run the drag across the field as the underneath option.
Run to the flat as the short flood route.
Run a deep post to clear the top and stress the safety.
How to teach it
- 1Backside guard pulls to protect the edge — this is the key protection block for the boot.
- 2QB carries out a believable sweep fake before booting; eyes stay downfield.
- 3Flood spacing: split end deep post, TE drag underneath, wingback in the flat — three levels.
Common mistakes to fix
- !QB rushes the fake and defenders don't bite — teach a full, patient buck fake.
- !Routes bunch at the same depth — space the flat, drag, and post at three distinct levels.
